Your 2023 Nissan Frontier Trim Guide

What does it take to be one of a kind? In the case of Nissan's flagship truck, the Frontier, being one of a kind means legitimately being the only one of its kind: the only pickup truck to wear the legendary Nissan badge. Are you looking for a Nissan Frontier for sale? Don't sweat it––at Sherwood Nissan, we've got you covered with a detailed trim guide on Nissan's midsize pickup truck. Today, we'll be going over each of the Frontier's trims to help you better understand the sheer depth of this pickup truck and what you can expect to get if you spend the extra money for a higher trim.

There are six trim levels for the 2023 Frontier. The base trim is the S, which starts at $40,998.[a] The base trim is followed up by the SV, SV Convenience, SV Midnight Edition, and SV Premium. Each of these trims brings a slightly different set of features, allowing you to better customize your truck. There is also the PRO-4X, which adds a ton of valuable off-road upgrades. With all the pricing and trim names out of the way, let's get started with the guide.

S

The first trim level for the 2023 Frontier is an impressive showing that packs some of the most noteworthy features of the modern-day automotive experience into an affordable midsize truck. The Frontier S is the clear choice for anyone who wants to save money on their next truck. However, there's no performance reduction between the base Frontier S and any of the higher-tier trims thanks to the standard 3.8L V6 engine paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. This means the Frontier S offers no less than 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque, has a payload capacity of 659 kg, and can tow 2,944 kg.

Having identical performance to its higher-tier brethren has many advantages, and although the 2023 Frontier uses a V6 and not a turbocharged engine, the rated fuel efficiency is still impressive at up to 12.1 L/100km combined. The Frontier S can also be taken off-roading thanks to a standard two-speed electronic transfer case with 4-Hi and 4-Lo modes you may select between. Like the other trim levels, the base Frontier S also has a front stabilizer bar, trailer sway control, and a robust infotainment center featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on a 20 cm touchscreen.

SV Convenience

The SV Convenience is the trim that begins to add many amenities to the Frontier, although it is still only offered with a two-door King Cab. For example, the S trim is the only option to come with a six-way manually-adjustable driver's seat, while the SV Convenience offers a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat. The SV Convenience also adds 120-volt power outlets to the bed and center console, which makes it the better choice if the truck needs to be taken to the work site and is required to charge your power tools.

Thanks to a built-in trailer hitch and wiring harness, the SV Convenience is ready to go if you're looking for a truck to master your towing tasks, which works wonders with the 2,944 kg towing capacity of the vehicle. The SV Convenience also adds some amenities that are more of a luxury, such as under-rail bed lighting that illuminates your cargo if you're opening the back of your truck at night time, and the shift leather is wrapped with leather, which makes the shifter have a far more premium feel.

SV

Next is the Frontier SV, which shares many of the same features as the preceding SV Convenience, but with a few exceptions. Firstly, the SV is a more spacious Crew Cab model with four doors and plenty of room for passengers. Instead of two small folding jump seats, your passengers will enjoy a comfortable bench seat with under-seat storage and center armrest cupholders. They will also benefit from rear heater ducts, rear power windows, and a pair of rear USB ports for charging electronic devices.

PRO-4X

If off-roading isn't so much a possibility for you as it's an inevitability, you should consider the Frontier PRO-4X. Nissan engineers the PRO-4X with everything you'd need for an off-roading experience that's fun, robust, and safe. Some of the best inclusions of this trim include unique 43 cm wheels wrapped in all-terrain tires and a locking rear differential. The PRO-4X also has upgraded Bilstein shock absorbers focused on off-roading. Off-roading can be dangerous, not just for yourself but for your vehicle too. Cosmetic damage can be quite common on the trail, but that's why the PRO-4X includes several underbody skid plates to avoid scrapes and scuffs. There are even red tow hooks to get you out of trouble if you get stuck.

The PRO-4X is also the first of the Frontier trims to utilize an upgraded infotainment center. While the S, SV Convenience, and SV all include a 20 cm touchscreen, the infotainment center in the PRO-4X and each succeeding trim is instead an improved 23 cm display. Although the extra three cm of screen real estate may not sound too impressive, the larger screen comes with added features that steal the show. It includes both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, supplies built-in Nissan Door-to-Door Navigation, and includes a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The upgraded infotainment system also supports Over-the-Air Updating, so you will have immediate access to new features as Nissan improves the software in the future.

SV Premium

The SV Premium is a solid trim. Not only does the SV Premium have what we love about the SV, including its leather steering wheel and shifter, but it adds more premium amenities to the mix. For example, the headlamps, fog lights, and daytime running lights are all LED, meaning they shine more brightly than your average bulb. Every seat in the cabin of the SV Premium boasts leather upholstery, so no more cloth. If you buy the SV Premium, you'll also be treated to an alternate audio experience in your Frontier––an audio solution that eclipses any other audio setup for Nissan's pickup truck. The base King Cab Frontier has a four-speaker setup, and the Crew Cab trims have a six-speaker system. However, the SV Premium has ten Fender speakers for crisp, high-quality audio surrounding the cabin and has not one but two powerful subwoofers, creating a travelling soundscape such as you've never heard before.

SV Midnight Edition

There are only a handful of small differences between the SV Midnight Edition and the SV Premium, but you will notice them immediately. That's because the SV Midnight Edition is dedicated to the blacked-out aesthetic. This trim adds black painted wheels, black side mirrors, a black grille, and black exterior badging. The SV Midnight Edition looks amazing in Super Black paint, but it can also be optioned in Gun Metallic grey or Glacier White if you don't want to go all black with your truck.
