What's New for 2022 at Nissan
Each year, automakers come out with new models and update existing models with new generations. But no automaker seems to be as active in updating its lineup quite as comprehensively as Nissan. If you stop into Sherwood Nissan, your local Nissan dealer, you are going to find a staggering amount of innovation on display, with Nissan showing why it is one of the most cutting-edge car brands in Canada. This is shown by the Nissan Intelligent Mobility platform deployed on the modern vehicles it manufactures.
For 2022, Nissan updated two of its existing models, introducing new generations of the Frontier midsize pickup truck and the Pathfinder SUV. However, it hasn't just rested on its laurels with its other vehicles. Instead, Nissan has taken steps to provide new features and details on many of the vehicles it produces. This attention to incremental changes shows that Nissan won't stop trying to keep improving its products so that you can get the best performance and enjoyment from your new Nissan vehicle.
At Sherwood Nissan, we proudly serve the greater Edmonton region, providing drivers like you with an incredible assortment of new and used Nissan cars, trucks, EVs, and SUVs. No matter which model you are looking for, you know that our dealership will be able to find you the Nissan you want with all the features you desire.
Two Next-Generation Nissan Models
Some of the biggest news to come out of Nissan this year is the announcement that two of its longest-running and most popular models, the Frontier midsize pickup truck and the Pathfinder midsize SUV, would be getting new generations. The Frontier first hit roads across Canada in 1997, while the Nissan Pathfinder has been blazing trails for drivers going back to 1986 when the Oilers were in the middle of their dynasty years.
The new Frontier represents the third generation of this versatile and dependable truck. It boasts a powerful 3.8-litre V6 gas engine with a 9-speed automatic transmission that is standard across all five trim levels. This delivers 310 hp and 281 lb-ft of torque, allowing you to haul up to 659 kg and tow up to 2,944 kg. The 2022 Frontier also won't hurt you at the pump, giving you a combined 11.3 L/100 km. In addition, if you love off-roading the trails around Sherwood Park, Nissan offers the 2022 Frontier PRO-4X, which is equipped for pushing the limits on the trail.
If you have a large family or want the option to go cruising with all your friends, then the all-new 2022 Nissan Pathfinder is the SUV for you. This three-row midsize model offers enough room for up to eight passengers. This latest version of the Pathfinder represents the fifth generation of this model and a return after a one-year hiatus so that Nissan could provide you with all the features you desire. This Pathfinder features standard all-wheel drive and is powered by a standard 3.5-litre V6 with a 9-speed automatic transmission. This can produce up to 284 hp and 259 lb-ft of torque, giving you the ability to tow up to 1,588 kg, which can come in handy if you plan to use your 2022 Pathfinder to explore the great outdoors.
Automotive insiders have already taken note of these two new editions of Nissan's most popular model. For example, the 2022 Nissan Frontier and Pathfinder both won the 2022 MotorWeek Driver's Choice Award for their segment.
The Nissans They Are A-Changing
Even when Nissan doesn't make a new generation of an existing model, every year, it takes steps to improve each model in its lineup. The new element may be as simple as a new colour option or a special edition with a unique interior and exterior design. Sometimes the change may be making an existing feature standard on all models, giving you more value for your budget. Other changes may be as involved as an entirely new powertrain. With the 2022 Nissan lineup, we see examples of each of these kinds of changes.
An excellent example of improving the looks of an existing model can be found with the 2022 Nissan Sentra, which introduces an all-new Midnight Edition available on the SR trim. The Midnight Edition pushes the ebony elements on the compact sedan, with interior and exterior trim to better accent the colour choice. This gives the Sentra a sleek and predatory look that is absolutely perfect if you love the colour black on your Nissan.
Nissan has also made some existing technological features on its models standard for the 2022 model year. For example, the 2022 Nissan LEAF now has a standard CHAdeMO quick-charging port on all models. This will allow you to travel across Canada in your LEAF without worrying about taking long pit stops to recharge this compact EV's lithium-ion battery. The quick charger allows you to tap into any CHAdeMO DC fast charging station in North America and get your LEAF's battery topped off in just slightly more time than your friends with conventional cars take to get their tanks filled with seriously overpriced gasoline. By making the quick charging port a standard feature on the 2022 LEAF, Nissan shows its dedication to bringing you better value with each new model year.
Sometimes, a major change can be made without creating an entirely new generation of an existing model. This is the case with the 2022 Nissan Rogue. This popular compact SUV now features an available 1.5-litre turbo I-3 gas engine, which is more powerful and efficient than the base 2.5-litre I-4. Drivers can now get 201 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque, giving them greater acceleration in their Nissan Rogue. As for fuel economy, a front-wheel drive 2022 Rogue with the available 1.5-litre engine will give you a combined 7.2 L/100 km, compared to the front-wheel drive model with the 2.5-litre engine, which gets 8.1 L/100 km.
An Award-Winning Legacy
Nissan has an award-winning legacy and continues to rack up even more accolades each year. The 2022 model year is no exception for Nissan, with still more kudos coming in for several members of its venerable vehicle lineup.
For instance, America's Kelley Blue Book named both the LEAF compact hatchback and the Armada full-size SUV for their coveted 5-year Cost to Own Award in their respective segments. This means that they will cost you less to own over time than other vehicles in their class when you take into consideration such factors as depreciation, expected fuel or energy costs, finance and insurance fees, and maintenance and repair costs. This means that if you buy either a LEAF or a Nissan Armada, you will end up spending less and saving more in the long run than the models built by Nissan's competitors.
Another area where Nissan excels is with vehicle safety. This is because Nissan has made its Nissan Safety Shield 360 suite of active driver assistance features standard on so many of its 2022 models. Each year, the American Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) conducts crashworthiness and other safety tests on passenger vehicles. The IIHS then names the best models as Top Safety Pick+ winners. For the 2022 model year, four Nissan models––the Rogue, Murano, Maxima, and Altima––received this highest designation from the IIHS, a testament to Nissan's dedication to passenger safety.
Another Banner Year for Nissan
We may be only halfway through the year, but it seems safe to say that 2022 is shaping up to be another banner year for Nissan. With new generations for two of its most popular vehicles, as well as plenty of new features, options, and standard equipment on a number of other models, Nissan has demonstrated that its dedication to constant innovation is paying off. The amount of room being taken up on Nissan's award shelf shows this to be the case. Join the celebration by making your next vehicle a 2022 Nissan.
