A Buyer’s Guide to the 2023 Nissan LEAF
If you are like most drivers here in this part of Alberta, you probably have two concerns when it comes to getting around the province on a daily basis. First, you don’t want to spend too much money on gasoline. This is especially true if you are a commuter who needs to drive to work every day. Second, Canadians have a great appreciation for the environment, so we don’t want to drive vehicles that pollute the environment with their emissions. If this sounds like you, then you should definitely check out a 2023 Nissan LEAF for sale.
Nissan introduced the LEAF in 2011 as the first affordable battery electric vehicle (BEV) produced for Canadian drivers. Aside from the LEAF’s sporty compact hatchback design, the LEAF offers a way for Canadian drivers to get around without relying on the gas pump. Instead, the Nissan LEAF runs on electricity supplied by its lithium-ion battery pack. Even the name LEAF lets you know that this model is great for the environment.
Now in its second generation, the LEAF also provides a great way to save money on your daily drive to work or school. With a base MSRP of $44,086, the 2023 LEAF is one of the most affordable BEVs on the market today.[a] At Sherwood Nissan, we are proud to offer the 2023 LEAF to Alberta drivers like you. Come in today and see why the LEAF is the vehicle for you.
Motors, Batteries, and Performance
The 2023 Nissan LEAF features an electric motor on the front axle. On the base SV trim, this motor delivers 148 hp. The SV PLUS and SL PLUS trims have a more powerful motor that produces 215 hp, propelling the LEAF from zero to 100 km/h in under eight seconds. This is the kind of acceleration you need when merging onto a busy highway.
The 2023 LEAF SV has a 40 kWh lithium-ion battery. This will give your vehicle an estimated range of 240 km on a full charge. Meanwhile, the LEAF SV PLUS and SL PLUS come with a 62 kWh lithium-ion battery. This gives you an extended range of 342 km when the battery pack is fully charged. In terms of fuel economy, this translates to just 1.9 Le/100 km in the city and 2.4 Le/100 km on the highway. These are numbers that can’t be achieved by any conventional gas-powered vehicle.
Recharging the Nissan LEAF is very easy. There is a 6.6 kW onboard charger and a Quick Charge port. This allows you to recharge your LEAF’s battery pack at home or public DC Quick Charge stations around the province. You can charge the battery in the LEAF SV to 80% in 40 minutes at one of these stations while recharging the larger battery in the longer-range models can take up to 60 minutes. In addition, the LEAF’s system provides for regenerative braking. When you use the LEAF in e-Pedal Mode, a portion of the kinetic energy released by the braking system will be recaptured and used to help recharge the lithium-ion battery pack.
Interior Space and Comfort
The 2023 LEAF features a mid-generation redesign of this model. This includes a new front grille and bumper and certain changes to the exterior lights. For example, the Nissan logo is now illuminated, which looks really cool when you drive your LEAF at night.
You can seat up to five passengers in the LEAF. There are an amazing 3,285 L of interior space inside the passenger compartment. When you realize that the LEAF has a tight 2.7 m wheelbase, it is a testament to the work done by Nissan’s designers that they found that much space for passengers inside the LEAF. For example, front-row passengers in the LEAF get 1,045 mm of headroom and 1,070 mm of legroom, while those seated in the back enjoy 946 mm of headroom and 851 mm of legroom. This shows how Nissan has done an excellent job apportioning the space between the two rows of seats in the 2023 LEAF.
The LEAF features very comfortable and attractive seats. The SV and SV PLUS trims have fabric upholstery, while the SL PLUS adds leather-appointed seats. All three trims heated front and rear seats. This will come in handy on cold mornings in this part of Canada. There are also four USB charging ports, two in front and two in back. This will allow you and your passengers to keep your devices charged up when you are out in your LEAF.
The LEAF also has a very spacious trunk with plenty of space for cargo. The 60/40 bench in the back folds down easily to free up plenty of space when you are using your LEAF to carry large objects. This shows the utility built into this vehicle.
Entertainment and Connectivity
The 2023 LEAF is one of Nissan’s most technologically advanced vehicles. This is all part of the Nissan Intelligent Mobility platform, using technological advances to make the brand’s vehicles safer and more enjoyable to drive.
Each LEAF is equipped with the NissanConnect infotainment system on a 20 cm colour display. This uses multi-touch control to help you easily go through the different apps and features on the system. Available features include SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link. This will help you navigate through whatever traffic jams and tie-ups you might face on your daily commute. It also gives you the opportunity to listen to some of the best music, talk, sports, and news wherever you drive in Canada, all commercial free.
You can connect your devices using Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. This will allow you to make hands-free calls and texts. It also enables you to stream your favourite music and access your apps. One of the best features of the NissanConnect system on the LEAF is Nissan Door-to-Door Navigation with Premium Traffic. This standard feature of the LEAF will guide you to your destination in the safest and most efficient way possible.
The LEAF SV and SV PLUS come with a six-speaker audio system. If you love music, though, you might consider moving up the 2023 LEAF SL PLUS. The top trim has a Bose Energy Efficient Series Premium Audio system. This includes seven speakers for high-quality audio performance, making your music sound better than ever.
Driver-Assistance Technologies
Nissan has built a reputation as a brand that designs vehicles with attention to passenger safety. This is definitely the case with the 2023 LEAF. No matter which trim you choose, you will get a full complement of standard driver-assistance features as part of the Nissan Safety Shield 360 system. Many of these are only offered as options on comparable models from other brands.
The Intelligent Forward Collision Warning System will alert you if it detects a possible collision with the vehicle in front of you. This will engage Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection to bring your LEAF to a stop before it collides with a pedestrian, bicyclist, or another vehicle. Even if it can’t stop your LEAF in time, the emergency braking system will reduce the impact of a crash.
One of the common causes of traffic accidents is lane changes. The 2023 LEAF comes with Blind Spot Warning and Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention. This will warn you if there is another vehicle travelling in your LEAF’s blind spot. When you signal to change lanes, it will alert you to the presence of the other car to prevent an accident. Similarly, Lane Departure Warning with Intelligent Lane Intervention will let you know if you are starting to drift out of your lane and use slight steering adjustments to get you safely back on course.
The LEAF’s driver-assistance systems will also help you avoid collisions when backing up. This is due to the standard rear sonar sensors in the model. These will work with the Intelligent Around View Monitor to pick up any vehicles or pedestrians in your path when driving your LEAF in reverse. The car also includes Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Rear Automatic Emergency Braking that will engage to help you avoid a collision.
The 2023 LEAF features ProPILOT Assist, a form of semi-autonomous driving. This includes a steering assist feature to keep your LEAF centered in the lane when cruising on the highway. In addition, there is Intelligent Cruise Control that will adjust your speed to match slower traffic in front of your vehicle. With standard Nissan Safety Shield 360, you will have the driver assistance you need to keep you and your passengers safe wherever you go.
